"Remember how we discussed how some words are for grownups only, and that I don't want to hear you using them before you get your driver's license, Junior?" Dan asked, frowning.

Chris sighed. "But all the other kids get to use those words!"

Pete recognized that Chris was testing his uncle's authority now that his father was once more in the picture. Strangely enough, his fellow inmates had reacted the same way whenever a new guard showed up.

I know that game, Junior, and I'm not playing.

"Not where their parents can hear them, I'll bet," he said. "Your Uncle Dan's right, and I'll be more careful from now on. Parents aren't supposed to teach their kids how to swear."
